Timalexandria:
This vessel is still being researched as I have yet to find any information concerning her sinking, or if she actually sank at all!
The Timalexandria may have been built as the Wimbrown One which was an 713 GRT offshore supply vessel built for service in the North Sea. She was one of three sister ships built at William Cleland & Co Ltd, shipbuilders, Wallsend, UK. The sister ships were named Wimbrown Two and Wimbrown Three. All three vessels had Paxman 12YHXM Diesels rated at 900 bhp at 1,500 rpm for both main propulsion and for the auxiliary generator sets. The Wimbrown One was launched on 03 May 1965 and completed the following June.
The Wimbrown One was still in service by that name as late as 1976. One of the sister ships, the Wimbrown Two was sold in 1977 and renamed Timsuez (Broken up 2003), so it may be possible that these ships were sold as a "package deal" to Egypt to work in the Red Sea oil fields.
Update 03 February!!!
I have been in contact with a Mr. Jimmy Hillman who served onboard the "Wimbrown One" until 1976. He told me in his e-mail that he remembered seeing the ship laid up at the Poplar Dock with her two sister ships (Wimbrown Two and Three) waiting to head to Egypt. So at least we know that the Wimbrown One was indeed sold to Egypt. We have also received some photos from Jimmy which will be posted in the next website update. Thanks for the information Jimmy! Greatly Appreciated!
If anyone has any additional information on the Timalexandria it would be greatly appreciated if it could be sent to "info@shipwrecksofegypt.com" in order to update this page.
