Tewfikieh:
The Tewfikieh was a passenger/cargo ship of 2,495 Grt. which was originally built as the Rameses at R. Napier & Sons, Govan, Glasgow, Yard No. 434 for the Moss Steamship Co., Ltd., Liverpool. Launched 04 July 1893 and computer in September of the same year. She was 320.5 feet in length, 38.2 feet in beam, and 23.1 feet in draught, with triple expansion engines which provided the single propeller with 307 Nhp for an 11 knot cruising speed. Sold to the Khedivial Mail Steamship & Graving Dock Co., Long in 1911 and renamed Tewfikieh. Requisitioned for service during WW1 and defensively armed.
No Photo Available On 09 June 1918 while on the Hull-Alexandria route carrying a cargo of coal and general cargo, the Tewfikieh was sunk by German submarine U-105 (Wilhelm Marschall) approximately 115 miles West-Northwest of Alexandria. 5 lives lost.
