On 27 Febrary 1944, the Rod EL Farag was on the Haifa-Famagusta route with a cargo of spirits when she was captured by German submarine U-407 (Hubertus Korndorfer) and subsequently sunk by gunfire at position 33.48N/34.15E off of Beirut.
