ThePulang Lupa ran aground on 11 January 1998 three-four miles north of Port Said. The Tsavliris company was contracted to reloat the ship after attempts by tugs from the Suez Canal Authority had failed. Two tugboats (Atlas and Megas Alexandros) were brought from Piraeus, Greece, with heavy equipment and two floating cranes. Also provided under the salvage contract was a Handyzsize Bulk Carrier used to offload 20,000 tons of ore from the Pulang Lupa. The ship was raised and both she, and the Handysize bulk carrier, continued on to Constanza, Romania, the original destination.

The Pulang Lupa was renamed Coppet in 2002, and in 2006 was renamed Magdalene and reflagged to Maltese registry and managed by Johann MK Blumenthal.
