The Murefte was a steam ferry of 691 GRT built at Swan Hunter & Wigham Richardson Ltd., Low Walker (Yard No. 1674), England, for the Government of Turkey. She was launched on 14 November 1940, and completed in January 1941, with a length of 54.9 meters, beam of 12.3 meters, and a single propeller.

Upon completion of the Murefte at Swan Hunter, she departed the Tyne for delivery to Istanbul under the British flag. However, she was never to arrive at her destination.
On 10 September 1941, the Murefte was sunk by the Italian submarine Topazio (600-ton Sirena class) at position 33.12N/34.55E. On crew member lost onboard. The remaining survivors were rescued by the Egyptian steamer Talodi
