| Miriam Borchard
This is one of those ships that can make one go a bit nuts trying to research: The Miriam Borchard was originally built as the Westermuhlen at J.J. Sietas Schiffswerft, Neuenfelde Yard No. 829, Hamburg, Germany. She was 118.4 meters in length and 17.8 meters in beam, with a single diesel and shaft providing a speed of 17 knots. The ship was launched on 22 May 1978.
I have yet to locate any information on who she was built for, operated by, or any subsequent history. No Photo Available
Known Name Changes:
1979 - renamed Zim Eilat (of the Zim Line?) 1982 - renamed Zim Export (of the Zim Line again?) 1983 - renamed Westermuhlen (original name) 1983 - renamed Miriam Borchard (of the Borchard Line?) 1983 - renamed Westermuhlen yet again (why?) 1985 - renamed Mariam Borchard once again. on 08 March 1988, the ship was involved in a collision at position 32.26N/31.00E in over 1200 meters of water. There have been numerous ships to carry the names of Westermuhlen, Zim Eilat, and Miriam Borchard over the years. There are still ships bearing these names operating today. However, I have been unable to locate any reference to this particular vessel.
