Magd:

The Magd was originally constructed as the Empire Gain, a 3,738 GRT tanker built for the Ministry of War Transport, Sunderland (mangaers: Hadley Shipping Co.)at the Laing Shipbuilding Co., Deptford Yard No. 752. The ship was 344-feet in length and 48-feet in beam.

In 1946 she was sold to the Anglo-Saxon Pertroleum Co.,(now Sarawak Shell) and renamed Barbatia. Sold again in 1955 to Shell Tankers Ltd.

Seized by Egypt during the Suez war and renamed Magd, owned by Egyptian General Pertroleum Organization. In 1961 the ship was owned by the United Arab Maritime Company.
During the 6 Day war in 1967, the Magd was bombed and sunk by Israeli aircraft at the southern end of the Suez Canal.

Salvage efforts to clear the Suez Canal after the 6-day war required that the Magd had to be blown up into 2 sections in order to raise and remove the ship from the canal.
