| Holmesbank: The Holmesbank was originally built as the 3,051 GRT Cargo ship Thirlwall by Richardson Duck, Thornby (Yard No. 572) for Mawson Shipping Co., Ltd., Cardiff. The ship was 99.1 meters in length and 14.4 meters in beam, with a single screw. She was sold to the Kestell Steamship Co. in 1915 and renamed Holmesbank. The ship was requisitioned for use by the Royal Navy sometime thereafter as an RVRN Collier. On 26 May 1917 the ship was sank by German submarine U-38 (Max Valentiner) at position 32.26N/29.30E either by being hit with a torpedo or gunfire after being captured (sources provide conflicting information on this.)
