Gada: The Gada was 3773 GRT Cargo Ship originally built as the Italia at AB Lindholmens Varv, Gothenburg, Sweden (Yard No. 1069). Launched 11 October 1960 and completed in January 1961 with a lentgh of 106.4 meters and beam of 14.5 meters.
The ship was lengthened by 25 meters in 1969 for a new total length of 121.4 meters additional tonnage of 4.325 GRT. In 1974 the ship was renamed the Ikaria 1 and then renamed the Gada later that same year. The ship's ownership and sailing histories have not been located to date. In July 1986, the Gada was placed in shallow water near the Alexandria Harbor outer breakwater (harbour side), near the Ras EL-Tin Naval Base, where she remained at anchor until sinking. The ship's superstructure and part of the main deck remained visible above the water until the ship was broken up in October 2004. |
