Clan Forbes: The Clan Forbes was a turret style collier built by W. Doxford and Sons Ltd., Sunderland (Yard No. 306) for Clan Line Steamers Ltd. Launched 25 April 1903 and completed the following June, the ship was 360.3 feet in length, 48.1 feet in beam, and 24.5 feet in draught, with a GRT of 3946 and a cruising speed of 11 knots.
Information available for this ship is limited and varies as to the ship's loss. One account states the ship foundered during a storm on 09 June 1918 while carrying a load of coal from Newport, Mon. to Port Said 115-miles West-Northwest of Alexandria at 31.55N/27.50E with the loss of 2 lives. Other sources state that the ship was sunk at this location by either German submarines UB-105 or U-115. References:
