Belle of France: A Turret Steamer of approximately 111 meters in length, 3876 GRT, and a cruising speed of 10 knots, the Belle of France was built in 1905 at the W. Doxford & Sons, Ltd., Sunderland yard for the Belle of France Steamship Co. Ltd., Liverpool(Belle Agency, Ltd., Liverpool).
The ship was sunk by torpedo attack on 01 February, 1916 while in transit with a load of grain from Karachi to Algiers by German submarine U21 (Otto Hersing) 126 miles Northwest-by-west of Alexandria at position 32.30N/27.45E. References:
