Battle of Baltim (Continued):

One source states that upon its return to Alexandria, the fourth OSA claimed that the small fleet of Egyptian missile boats had sunk four Israeli boats which they believed were three motor torpedo boats and a single missile boat. This source goes on to state that many years later, the Commander of the Reshef met an Egyptian naval officer at the US Naval War College who had commanded one of the OSA's and was told that the Egyptian officer and two or three crew members survived the attack and were able to swim ashore.
In his book, The Ramadan War, Mr. Hassan EL-Badri also states that four Israeli vessels were sunk earlier on 08 October. However, research has yet to locate any supporting evidence of a naval engagement between the Egyptian and Israeli navies on this date.
The aftermath of the two naval engagements, the Battle of Latakia and the Battle of Baltim, gave the Israeli navy near total control of the eastern Mediterranean until the end of the war on 26 October. In the larger overall picture concerning combat-at-sea, the effective use of Electonic Counter Measures (ECM) and Surface-to-Surface Missiles (SSM's) by the Israeli Navy provided many lessons in the future development of ECM and SSM technologies for many navies throughout the world.....
