Sadana Island Shipwreck:
The Sadana Island Shipwreck are the remains of an Ottoman period ship which is believed to have been trading vessel of the period.
Construction of this vessel has been dated to prior to 1765 A.D. and contained numerous "Qulal", fine porcelain, and spices. This archaeological site was known to local recreational divers for about 10 years prior to its survey and excavation commencing in 1996 by a team of the Institute of Nautical Archaeology (INA) headed by Dr. Cheryl Ward.
In the case of this shipwreck we here at Shipwrecks of Egypt have decided not to write about it ourselves, or the excavation. Rather, we would prefer to have you learn about this shipwreck, its history and importance, cargo, and excavation in the words of Dr. Ward herself. You can find her article located here. Definitely worth reading!
And here is the homepage for the Sadana Island Shipwreck Project. This site has ship construction details, study methodology, excavation reports, conservation reports, and more!
This being an archaeological site, it is off-limits to recreational diving.
