Wreck Diving in Egypt
Whether you prefer diving in the crystal clear waters of the Red Sea and the multitude of wrecks there, or for the more adventurous diver, the wrecks and archaeological sites of the north coast, diving in Egypt has something to offer every diver.
The Red Sea is well known and documented. From the beautiful reefs located in the Straits of Tiran and Marsa Alam, teeming with aquatic life, to the wrecks located throughout the Red Sea, this conjures up visions of everything that diving is supposed to be....and the Red Sea delivers!
Shipwrecks with names like "Thistlegorm, Dunraven, Rosalie Moller, Giannis "D", and "Carnatic", just to name a few, are all wonderful wreck dives and are easily accessible from just about any dive center located in either Sharm EL Sheikh or Hurghada. But there are also many other shipwrecks in the Red Sea which are a bit more off the "beaten path" for those who are more adventurous.
The North Coast is an extremely different dive experience. Diving here should be considered best suited for the more adventurous and experienced diver due to frequent low viz conditions, lack of adequate dive facilities, dive boats, dive guides, and limited knowledge about the shipwrecks that lie just off the coast. The North Coast is also more controlled, both militarily and archaeologically. Diving in some areas may require special arrangements and permits in advance which can be both costly and time consuming. Also, there are no dive centers or clubs offering mixed gasses. Pre-plannning here is a must.
